Imagine: Seeing the world from the top of a mountain, roasting marshmallows
while counting shooting stars, sleeping in a tent for the first time,
spending an entire week learning skills and playing games related to your
favorite sport, singing solo on stage, painting a masterpiece.
These are priceless, lifetime memories. And, these are experiences overnight
camps offer children in the Monadnock Region.
Overnight camping can provide children with a very unique experience – the
chance to explore their own decision-making power and individuality within a
structured, safe environment.
But, it’s up to parents to make sure that environment is the right fit for
their child. Parents need to take into consideration a child’s goals,
expectations, needs, and interests.
Experts advise parents to ask children questions before deciding which camp
is best: What do you want to learn or gain while at camp? Why does this camp
appeal to you? What sounds the most fun? Are there any parts of going to an
overnight camp that worry you?
