Background:

Antrim was named for a county in Northern Ireland. It was incorporated in 1777, and sturdy Scotch-Irish settlers established a Presbyterian church here in 1788. The cutlery industry here, which ended in 1989, began with the manufacture of apple-paring machines in 1864. Antrim was the hometown of Gov. David H. Goodell, who served from 1889 to 1891.
